INTERNSHIP PAID- Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem Pinedale Wyoming In 2004 Aster Canyon Consulting, Inc. was founded by a woman who recognized that local Wyoming businesses, government and industry needed technical field assistance and guidance to stay in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act of 1973 and Clean Water Act (CWA) of the United States. As those technical services grew so did the mission of the company to provide opportunities for collaboration, leadership, field skills, and diversity of experiences for young scientists. A qualified applicant will gain useful natural resource career experience in the areas of: Multiple avian species field collection methods to include mountain plover, sage-grouse, burrowing owls, bald eagles, golden eagles, sage sparrows, sage thrashers, brewers’ sparrows, ferruginous hawks, red-tailed hawks, Swainsons hawk, northern harrier, American kestrel, merlin, other raptors and migratory birds. Mammals- prairie dogs, pygmy rabbits, pronghorn antelope, mule deer, and moose. GPS and GIS systems and their use in natural resources. 4-wheel drive vehicles, small engine, and specialty tool handling, maintenance, and repair. Customer relations, and teamwork. In addition, the intern will gain career experience in the areas of botanical surveys, vegetation restoration, soil restoration, wetland ecology and wetland delineation work. Furthermore, interns will not only gain confidence working with Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem threatened and sensitive species, but also develop confidence and capability as a scientist working in the field of wildlife conservation, natural resource policy, and restoration ecology. Education- Enrolled in or a recent graduate of a degree program in biology, wildlife biology, zoology, botany, environmental science, or a related field. Duties- Participate in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects. Participate in Endangered Species Act of 1973 projects. Participate in Clean Water Act (CWA) projects. Conduct raptor nest searches and chick counts. Conduct pygmy rabbit presence/absence surveys on foot. Conduct white tailed prairie dog presence/absence surveys on foot. Record presence of general wildlife observations in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Habitat assessment and restoration data collection.

Conduct raptor nest searches, and raptor nest occupancy/productivity surveys. Survey for pygmy rabbits, white-tailed prairie dogs, and mountain plover. Must accurately and meticulously record data in the field and conduct quality control and quality assurance on collected data. Must accurately and meticulously enter data in excel database Locate and use existing reports, scientific studies, data, and other relevant documents for educating yourself, creating ideas and for interpreting data and preparation of reports. Must accurately and meticulously map data via Arc View GIS Must accurately and meticulously report findings, maintain database, field truck, field equipment, safety equipment and record time on timesheet. Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn Wyoming wildlife biology. Must have a keen sense of observation. Qualifications Top applicants will possess a B.S. in wildlife, biology, ecology, range ecology or natural resources. Experience identifying nesting raptors and owls in the western region. Ability to pass pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment. Ecologist / Botanist: Wyoming $16-$18 Job Description: • Conduct reclamation monitoring, weed monitoring, vegetation field studies, endangered plant surveys, and wetland delineations. • Must have knowledge or ability to key out sage-steppe grasses, forbs and shrubs. • Must have knowledge or ability to identify soils. • Collect data as per established protocols. • Run vegetation transects on reclaimed gas well pads and undisturbed rangeland. • Must accurately and meticulously record data in the field and conduct quality control and quality assurance on collected data. • Must accurately and meticulously enter data in an excel database. • Locate and use existing reports, scientific studies, data and other relevant documents for educating yourself, creating ideas and for interpreting data and preparation of reports. • Must accurately and meticulously report findings. • Must accurately and meticulously maintain database, field truck, field equipment, safety equipment. • Able to work outside in bad conditions. • A desire to learn. • Wyoming commercial applicators license is a plus.
